A Saturday night at Jamboree with The Pear Blossoms, a fantastic string band duo from Texas and Ontario playing old-style originals and live renditions of classical ragtime and American parlour music tunes long forgotten, with support from renowned jazz, afrobeat, dance and avant-gardé musician Bukky Leo.
Headliners The Pear Blossoms are Alexander Jones (Texas, USA) and Dayna Pirso (Ontario, Canada). Both have spent their entire musical careers steeped in Americana, focusing on pre-war era jazz and blues, and each are accomplished musicians in their own right, having played music of all genres in every corner of North America and in Europe. Theirs is a craft that is only made possible by countless hours spent in the archives, with great dedication and reverence.
In support, renowned jazz, afrobeat, dance and avant-gardé man Bukky Leo grew up in Lagos Nigeria, where he was spotted practising his first saxophone by the original afro-beat drummer Tony Allen. He went on to play with the great Fela Kuti, developing his distinct style of jazz and afrobeat, before becaming one of the forerunners of the acid jazz scene.
