Emma Hunter launches her highly anticipated new album, Yolanda.
One of Oxford's best acts, Emma's smoky, agile vocals weave evocative stories over ornate and occasionally looped guitar, accompanied by the elegant drums of Tom Bruce. The duo has won plaudits across the county, including song-of-the-year awards from both Nightshift magazine and radio show The Melting Pot, but has also received critical acclaim from far further afield. The Other Side Reviews sums up the Hunter sound perfectly, "Taking inspiration from artists like Portishead, The Shangri-Las, Imogen Heap, and the soundtracks of David Lynch films, UK-based Emma Hunter skates along flamenco music with a dark art-rock sound".
Support comes from Pet Twin, whose intense, cathartic songs skirt the edges of goth gloom on their way to pop pleasure - "A typical track merges thick treacly bass, heart-wrenching vocals, and euphoric keys, so that you?re not sure whether to dance, weep, or collapse in the corner" Nightshift - and Barricane's femme fatale folk - "Mystical, drama-laden female harmonies-led trip-pop is going to haunt your every midnight hour" Nightshift.
