Hope Flowers School stands as a lifeline and beacon of hope to traumatised children, their families and communities in the West Bank, Palestine.
'Hope Flowers' has been helping traumatised children, supporting the community and educating for peace for over thirty years. Situated just outside Bethlehem, seventy percent of the pupils live in refugee camps. Community support includes supplying meals for malnourished children in the area, as well as its own pupils. Recently 'Hope Flowers' has expanded its work to include orphaned children from Gaza suffering complex trauma.
The Pig and Pastry stands as a long-standing fixture on Bishopthorpe Road, a true neighbourhood institution that has cultivated a loyal following over nearly two decades. More than simply a commercial enterprise, it functions as a vital gathering point, fostering connections and serving as a consistent backdrop for local life and community interactions.
Within its modest footprint, the cafe maintains a bustling yet friendly atmosphere, characterised by a laid-back, bohemian charm. The aroma of freshly baked goods and quality coffee often fills the air, while the natural light from the windows illuminates the varied seating arrangements, inviting patrons to settle in.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with wheelchair accessibility and restroom facilities ensuring comfort for all visitors. An inviting outdoor seating area provides an additional option when the weather permits. The drinks menu extends beyond excellent coffee, sourced from local roasters, to include freshly pressed juices and a selection of hot chocolates.
Beyond its daily service, the venue periodically transforms to host a range of community-focused activities. These have included pop-up collaborations with local friends, intimate music performances, and charity fundraisers, alongside ongoing exhibitions showcasing local artistic talent.
