Description

You are welcome to join Morgan Fisher for an evening of songs and stories from his amazing and varied career.

From 1968, Morgan played organ with The Love Affair (#1 hit in U.K. Everlasting Love and four Top 20 hits before disbanding in 1971). In 1972 he formed the progressive rock band Morgan with Tim Staffell (previously the singer of Smile, who soon became Queen).

In 1973 he joined the Third Ear Band for a brief period (an avant-garde band who made the music for Roman Polanski's film of Macbeth) and then joined Mott the Hoople, who had recently been produced by David Bowie and had a U.K. hit with All the Young Dudes, plus several more top ten hits. They were the first rock band to perform for a week on Broadway. He continued on keyboards as the band morphed into Mott, then British Lions (with John Fiddler of Medicine Head).

After British Lions, Morgan was an in-demand guest keyboardist for many artists including Hanoi Rocks, Slaughter & the Dogs, Wayne County & the Electric Chairs, The Dead Kennedys, and Mike Harrison (Spooky Tooth).

Inspired by the DIY spirit of punk, he set up Pipe Music, an indie studio and record label.

He released Slow Music (ambient album), Hybrid Kids (art-punk album) and Miniatures (a groundbreaking collection of 51 one-minute tracks by Robert Fripp, Robert Wyatt, Michael Nyman, Gavin Bryars, members of The Flying Lizards, The Pretenders, XTC, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, The Damned and other artists).

In 1982 Morgan played keyboards with Queen on their Hot Space tour.

In 1985 he moved to Japan (where he still lives) and set up The Handmade Studio, where he recorded ambient albums and music for art videos, films and television. He gave many solo performances at major expos, galleries, museums, and sessions with numerous Japanese bands and artists from underground to rock superstars.

In 1990, he recorded the album Echoes of Lennon with guest Yoko Ono.

He recorded Relax, Refresh and Recharge, and created the soundtrack for the animated film The Apfel Land Story. He performed music from Twin Peaks with Haruomi Hosono (of Yellow Magic Orchestra) and Julee Cruise (who sang on the original Twin Peaks soundtrack), and Morgan wrote and performed world music for the Nicole fashion company in Paris and Tokyo. He also undertook tours of China and Brazil with Japanese bands.

In 1994 he played at the Mick Ronson Memorial Concert at Hammersmith Odeon, with Ian Hunter, Roger Taylor, Roger Daltrey, Big Audio Dynamite, Glen Matlock, Bill Wyman, and many others.

In 1996 he produced Moth Poet Hotel, a Mott the Hoople tribute album with major Japanese bands such as Yellow Monkey, Heat Wave, High Lows, plus Brian May.

Between 1999 and 2024, he recorded with The Minus 5 (REM spin-off group featuring their guitarist Peter Buck).

Since 2003, he has presented his regular Morgan's Organ concerts in Tokyo, which have included artists such as Jane Siberry, Terry Riley and Richard Strange.

In 2018 and 2019, he played on the Mott the Hoople '74 reunion tours in UK, USA, Spain and Sweden.

Last year he performed a solo version of The Hoople album in both London and Tokyo, and played at the Neil Innes Memorial Concert with members of The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, The Ruttles and Monty Python.
