On 4 January 1642, Charles I marched into Westminster intent on arresting five Members of Parliament. Although ?the birds had flown?, this action set in motion a series of events that led to bloodshed, civil war, and a nation changed forever. This is the story of an English people?s political awakening, of remarkable but flawed characters with difficult choices, and a society in profound distress.
