Jim lives in Cullercoats and was born in the north east, though he spent ten years in London and so is well known to older folkies. He has a lovely powerful voice and is known for his shanty singing but his repertoire and erudite knowledge is so much broader than shanties, or even sea songs. He has an enormous repertoire and researches and writes about the songs in which he is interested.
