Scottish Chamber Orchestra presents Highland Classics (classical music)

This summer, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra brings a sparkling programme of classical favourites and virtuosic flair to Highlands audiences. Under the dynamic direction of Principal Conductor Maxim Emelyanychev, the concert opens with Mozart’s Symphony No.20, brimming with elegance and youthful energy.
Flute soloists André Cebrián and Marta Gómez take centre stage in Doppler’s Double Flute Concerto, a dazzling display of lyricism and agility that showcases the expressive range of the instrument. Then, after the interval, the drama unfolds with Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni, a thrilling curtain-raiser to one of opera’s darkest masterpieces.
The evening concludes with Haydn’s Symphony No.94, the beloved ‘Surprise’, full of wit, invention, an, of course, a famous jolt that never fails to delight. From playful charm to operatic intensity, this programme offers a joyful celebration of the classical tradition, performed with the SCO’s trademark vitality and finesse.

Its renowned acoustics ensure clarity and depth for every performance.
Practical considerations are well-addressed, with wheelchair access facilitated via a dedicated side entrance adjacent to the Phoenix Café. This on-site café provides refreshments, and ample parking is available for visitors attending events.
Throughout the year, the venue hosts a broad spectrum of artistic and community gatherings, from contemporary and traditional music concerts to classical performances, touring theatre productions, dance, film screenings, and educational workshops. It regularly accommodates conferences, festivals, and local community meetings.
