Owned and managed by husband and wife team, Roberto and Giovanna Zeolla since 2001 The Chequers Matching Green Restaurant & Country Pub has a simple philosophy to food… freshly made and delicious.

The pub is very much part of local the community. Regular local highlights include the Essex Hunt on Boxing Day, the Easter Egg hunt, the May Day parade, the Classic and Sports Car Show on the first Sunday in August and the popular Bonfire Night celebrations on the green on the 5 November.

We have three dining spaces to choose from. Our dining room, terraces and the pub lounge which provides well spaced seating to enjoy lunch or dinner comfortably.

Our dining room has an open, understated style with a sophisticated yet relaxed ambience whilst our pub lounge offers a more rustic, traditional country feel. Scattered with comfy leather chairs, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. You can also dine ‘al fresco’ during the summer on either our terraces, or outside on the wooden benches overlooking the delightful village green.
Only the best ingredients are used to provide an imaginative and individual dishes, retaining the qualities of classical cuisine. We now use an increasing amount of produce we have grown in our herb garden and allotment.
So, whether you want something from the la carte menu or just traditional fish and chips we’re bound to have something which suits your palette.
