Halsway Manor functions as the National Centre for Folk Arts, a singular residential hub in the UK dedicated to England's rich and varied folk heritage. As a registered charity, it serves as a vital asset, hosting over 340 days of residential and outreach activity each year, fostering a deep engagement with traditional arts.
The interior spaces exude a quiet grandeur; the entrance hall, with its oak panelling and impressive barrel ceiling, often greets visitors with the comforting scent and warmth of a substantial log fire on cooler days. A discreet, panelled door in the comfortable lounge reveals the library, distinguished by its magnificent plasterwork ceiling.
Set within six acres, the grounds encompass both formal gardens and wilder areas, offering expansive views across the landscape. Practical considerations include several step-free ground floor rooms with wet rooms to enhance accessibility. A licensed bar is available, and all meals are prepared freshly on the premises.
The centre's programme is broad, covering instrumental music, traditional song, dance, storytelling, and various crafts, including instrument making. Events range from opportunities for amateur exploration and skill development to professional workshops, supporting the creation of new work and the stewardship of cultural heritage.
