About City Varieties Music Hall

City Varieties Music Hall stands as a significant cultural asset within Leeds, a Grade II* listed building that has served the city and wider region since 1865. Operated by a charitable trust, it maintains its status as the nation's longest continuously operating music hall, a testament to its enduring appeal and the dedication to preserving its unique heritage for future generations.

Within its historic walls, the atmosphere is palpable, a blend of Victorian grandeur and intimate theatricality. The eye is drawn to the intricate plasterwork adorning the bow-fronted balconies and the robust cast-iron columns that support them, all bathed in the warm glow of the house lights. The air itself seems to hold echoes of past performances, a quiet hum of anticipation before the curtain rises.

Situated on Swan Street, a pedestrianised thoroughfare, the venue is easily accessible, with numerous city centre car parks nearby and Leeds train station a short walk away. Patrons can enjoy refreshments from the Edwardian Circle Bar, or explore the surrounding area for pre-show dining options.

The programming reflects its rich history and contemporary relevance, encompassing a diverse calendar of live performances. Audiences can experience traditional music hall events, engaging stand-up comedy, a range of musical acts, and seasonal pantomimes, ensuring a vibrant schedule throughout the year.
