Darlington Hippodrome

Darlington Hippodrome stands as a significant cultural asset for the North East, a meticulously restored Edwardian theatre that continues its long tradition as a premier destination for national touring productions. Reopened in 2017 after extensive refurbishment, it serves as a vibrant hub, drawing audiences from across the region to experience a diverse programme of live performance.

Within its walls, the atmosphere speaks of a rich theatrical past, where the subtle scent of polished wood and aged velvet mingles with the anticipation of a new performance. Ornate plasterwork, carefully preserved, catches the soft glow of the house lights, creating an intimate yet grand setting that honours its 1907 origins while offering contemporary comfort.

The venue is well-equipped for modern audiences, featuring improved accessibility throughout and several bars offering refreshments before performances and during intervals. Its central location in Darlington, a short walk from the town's railway station and local amenities, ensures ease of access for patrons travelling from near and far.

Throughout the year, the Hippodrome hosts a broad spectrum of events, from large-scale musicals and classic dramatic works to ballet, contemporary dance, and family-oriented shows. Its stage also welcomes acclaimed comedians and musicians, ensuring a varied cultural calendar that caters to a wide range of artistic tastes.
