The Little Theatre

The Little Theatre Southport, home to the Southport Dramatic Club, stands as a significant cultural asset within the town, fostering dramatic arts and providing a consistent programme of events for the wider community. As a registered charity, its core mission is dedicated to the production and performance of dramatic plays, alongside the encouragement of dramatic art for public benefit.

The auditorium, with its well-raked single tier and 396 seats, offers an intimate viewing experience. Walls curve gently towards a proscenium arch, subtly lit, creating a focused yet welcoming ambiance. The air often carries the faint scent of aged stage curtains and polished wood, hinting at decades of performances and shared theatrical moments.

Practical considerations are well-addressed, with the venue featuring a lift providing access to all public areas, including the bar and upper crush hall, alongside dedicated disabled toilet facilities. A re-sited and expanded bar area, established in the late 1970s, not only provides refreshments but also serves as a versatile space for smaller, in-the-round productions.

Throughout the year, the theatre hosts a diverse schedule, encompassing everything from classic thrillers and beloved family stories to contemporary dramas and musical theatre productions. These events are frequently presented by the resident Southport Dramatic Club and various visiting societies, consistently showcasing both established and emerging talent to local audiences.
