The Storyhouse

Storyhouse stands as a vital cultural asset in Chester, a registered charity that extends far beyond a conventional entertainment venue. It serves as a dynamic civic space, cultivating engagement and creativity for residents and visitors alike, underpinning the city's artistic and intellectual life through its diverse offerings.

Within its thoughtfully restored 1930s Art Deco shell, the interior spaces reveal a considered blend of heritage and contemporary design. The plush red velvet of the boutique cinema seats offers a tactile comfort, while the expansive views from the upper-level Garret bar provide a visual connection to the city's historic skyline.

Practical considerations are met with meticulous attention, ensuring broad access for all patrons. The entire building is fully accessible via lifts, with dedicated wheelchair spaces across its theatres and cinema, complemented by accessible and Changing Places toilet facilities on every floor. Refreshments are readily available from the ground floor restaurant, The Kitchen, and two distinct bars.

Throughout the year, Storyhouse curates a rich programme encompassing a spectrum of performing arts, from theatrical productions and dance to opera and comedy. Independent and mainstream cinematic experiences run alongside literary festivals, community workshops, and a host of free public activities, ensuring a constant flow of cultural discovery.
