Theatre Royal

Theatre Royal Brighton stands as a venerable cultural institution on New Road, a Grade II* listed landmark that has continuously presented professional productions since 1807. It remains a vital asset to the city's cultural quarter, a place where generations have gathered for shared theatrical experiences, cementing its status as one of the oldest and most distinguished theatres in the country.

Within its Regency auditorium, the air often carries a faint, comforting scent of aged wood and velvet, a subtle reminder of countless performances past. The soft glow of the house lights before a curtain rises creates an atmosphere of hushed anticipation, a collective breath held before the unfolding drama or musical spectacle. The intricate architectural details speak to a rich history, inviting patrons to connect with a legacy of live performance.

For practical considerations, the venue offers step-free access to the Stalls level and accessible toilet facilities on the ground floor, though it is important to note there is no customer lift to upper levels. Bars are available on all levels for refreshments, and The Parlour, a café on New Road, provides coffee and snacks.

The programming at Theatre Royal Brighton is broad, encompassing a diverse array of West End and touring productions, including acclaimed musicals, compelling plays, opera, ballet, and comedy. Beyond the main stage, the theatre actively engages with the community through its Creative Learning programme, offering workshops, talks, and backstage tours that delve into the building's fascinating heritage.
