The Stables

The Stables, established in 1970 by jazz luminaries Sir John Dankworth and Dame Cleo Laine, stands as a significant cultural asset in Wavendon, Milton Keynes. Operating as a registered charity, its core mission extends beyond entertainment, aiming to broaden access to music and the arts for diverse audiences. This commitment solidifies its reputation not merely as a venue, but as a vital hub for artistic engagement and community enrichment, including its role in producing the biennial IF: Milton Keynes International Festival.

Within its walls, the atmosphere shifts from the focused intimacy of Stage 2, an 80-seat studio, to the expansive Jim Marshall Auditorium, seating 398. The air often carries the subtle scent of polished wood and the lingering warmth of anticipation before a performance, giving way to the rich, unamplified resonance of live instrumentation or the clear articulation of spoken word. Practical considerations are well-addressed, enhancing the visitor experience. An on-site restaurant, The Stables Kitchen, provides pre-show dining, complemented by a well-stocked bar. The venue prides itself on its high accessibility, offering lift access to various seating levels, dedicated wheelchair spaces, and an Ampetronic hearing loop system in the main auditorium. Free, on-site parking is also available, with designated spaces for Blue Badge holders.
