Theatre Royal

Standing proudly on Saw close, the Theatre Royal Bath is a distinguished Georgian playhouse that has been a focal point for the city's cultural life since its opening in 1805. It is a significant national asset, drawing audiences from across the country for its diverse and high-quality programming. The theatre's enduring presence makes it a vital part of Bath's identity, offering a consistent source of artistic engagement and entertainment.

Inside, the auditorium offers a sense of occasion. The plush velvet seating, a deep crimson, invites patrons to settle in, while the ornate plasterwork and gilded details catch the light, creating an atmosphere of refined grandeur. The air often carries a faint, pleasant scent of polished wood and perhaps a hint of the refreshments from the bars.

The venue is well-equipped to welcome all visitors, with accessible facilities including lift access to various levels and dedicated spaces for wheelchair users. Interval drinks can be pre-ordered at the bars, ensuring a seamless experience. Adjacent to the main theatre, the Ustinov Studio and the Egg Theatre provide more intimate and child-focused performance spaces, respectively.

The Theatre Royal presents a comprehensive calendar of events throughout the year. Audiences can expect a rich tapestry of theatrical productions, from classic dramas and contemporary plays to touring musicals, opera, and comedy shows. Regular highlights include a celebrated summer season and a much-anticipated traditional Christmas pantomime.
