About Red Eye

The original four members of Red Eye have re-formed to celebrate forty years since the first ever Red Eye gig at Boddington Hall, Leeds

The two guitarists Trevor Birkinshaw and Terry Child were introduced in mid 1977 by mutual friend Steve Stocks.

Steve then arranged for the two to get together with Bass player Ian ‘Tot’ Thompson and drummer Pete Russell and the fledgling four piece was formed.

It was Steve who also coined the name RED EYE and it stuck.

As far as we know, although there have been many bands named Red Eye (notably a very successful American outfit), we were the earliest to coin name RED EYE.

The first incarnation of the band played together for around two years until unfortunately Tot left the band.

However the band carried on for many years into the mid 1980s. RED EYE had a loyal following stretching from Hull in the East to Blackburn in the West and gigs were always hugely well attended.

The current line up re-formed in 1998 to play a 20th anniversary gig, however, they stayed together for another five years playing around Leeds and delighting audiences with their mix of rock covers and original material.

It has been said that the original line up was the best and most prolific and so it is proving once again.

RED EYE re-formed and started rehearsals way back in March and have played a couple of ‘dry runs’ near Terry’s home in Derbyshire and also one at the Grove in Leeds. The band have been concentrating on getting everything back up to their very high standard and have also been rehearsing four new RED EYE songs to integrate into the new set ready for their next gig. Terry who has written the bulk of the songs is currently working in collaboration with other band members to develop more new songs for the future.

It is envisaged that the band will spend some time recording an album which will contain all the old originals and the new compositions currently being written.

We hope you will all join us on this latest journey into the unknown, come along and have a blast and we hope you will all enjoy it at least half as much as we do and believe you me were are having A BALL!!!
