Live Performance
Wind Band
We are group of brass, woodwind and percussion players from various walks of life — retired professionals, enthusiastic amateurs, and adults who have returned to playing after a lapse of many years. DCWB is a friendly, diverse group with player ages ranging from teens to pensioners!
The Band was originally formed in 2006 by a group of players under the Musical Direction of Gary Bridge. Chris Lawn took over as Conductor in 2008, and we carry on today under the Musical Direction of Phil Tranmer.
Our repertoire is extensive and varied — we play traditional and modern pieces, film themes, marches, hymns, etc. The band members choose the music we play (which keeps everyone happy!) and we have a large library of music to choose from. Funds from band “jobs” go towards buying new music and we regularly have new pieces.
We rehearse every Tuesday night from 7.30pm until 9.30pm at Hurworth Grange, near Darlington. Hurworth Grange has the benefit of beautiful grounds, car parking… and a bar, which is often where band members can be found after rehearsal!
Situated in the town gardens section of the Beamish museum this bandstand hosts regular concerts.
Performing in the Town Bandstand from 11.15am to 12.15pm, 12.30pm to 1.15pm, 1.45pm to 2.45pm and 3pm to 3.45pm.
