Cleveland Concert Band Profile Pic

Description

Cleveland Concert Band was formed in January 2007 by a very small group of dedicated musicians who came from Middlesbrough, Eston, Northallerton, Guisborough, New Marske, Redcar, Dormanstown and other places surrounded by the Cleveland Hills in the North East of England.

We have grown steadily in numbers since our first rehearsal of only ten players. We are a very happy and content team of part-time musicians who enjoy the great company of likeminded people of all age groups and abilities. We are all amateurs and have no professional players within our band.

The band actively support local charities and groups who would like to raise money for good causes. We are a very happy band that will always give our audience a great concert to remember, for all the right reasons. The band can perform music such as the Old time songs, Dance, Jazz, songs from the top musical shows as well as perform some of the modern pop songs to make most occasions that bit special. We have something for every member of the family to enjoy and we don't charge a fortune for live music like some concert windbands. Any fees charged go towards the running costs of the band.

Many of our playing members bring with them vast amounts of experience from playing with other bands or orchestras, we even have ex-military musicians within our group. This Windband is made up of people from all walks of life and age groups. Our youngest player was just 9yrs old when they started and our oldest is into their 80's. Every member of our band is willing to help others to improve in their ability to play good entertaining music. You don't need to have a music grade to play in this band. That's what makes this band stand out from others, no matter what the age or ability, the Cleveland Concert Band are a happy bunch of friendly musicians to be associated with and enjoy what we do, we don't mind what grade you are, not like some other bands in our area.
You don't have to be a great player to sit in on a rehearsal. It doesn't matter how long you have been playing just as long as you enjoy music and can read to a moderate standard. No musical grades? No problem with us. Don't be shy, give us a try.

Our practice night is every Tuesday from 7:30p.m. until 9:15p.m. at St Alphonsus Church Hall, Westbourne Grove, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough TS3 6EW If you have your own wind instrument, (Brass or Woodwind) and can read music to a moderate standard then we would like to hear from you. it doesn't matter how old you are either. Most people are welcome to come along to have a blow with us or to just pop in for a listen. You never know, you might enjoy it as much as we do and you don't have to join the band to have a practice or two with us. You will not be disappointed with what you hear. If you wish to know more about us then you can contact us at any time.

Saltburn Bandstand Profile Pic

Description

Once home to three bandstands, one at the pier head, one in the Valley Gardens and one in Hazel Grove, all now lost, a long campaign was fought by local people, in particular the Saltburn 500 Club to bring a bandstand back to the town.

In July 1997 after years of fund raising and a National Lottery Grant for £63,500, the Bandstand, which was designed by Peter Fenton, a well known local architect, was opened.

The Bandstand also boasts decorative security screens made by local wrought ironsmith James Godbold who has a forge in the village of Egton, North Yorkshire. Every year free band concerts are held between May and September. Volunteers from the Saltburn 500 Club work hard to raise money to maintain the bandstand and organise the concerts with support from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and Saltburn, Marske and New Marske Parish Council.
