Live Performance
Brass Band
Bradwell Silver Band was founded on January 15th 1901 and can proudly claim that it has been in continuous existence for well over a century.
Most of the original members lived in what was then rural North Buckinghamshire villages of Bradwell and Stantonbury and were employed at the London and North Western Railway Works in neighbouring Wolverton. These areas were later renamed Old Bradwell and New Bradwell respectively and although both areas retain their identities, they are now very much a part of the ever expanding development that is Milton Keynes. The railway works ceased to be a major employer by the 1980s and today’s membership is drawn from a cross section of trades and professions.
The 2018 contest of the London & Southern Counties Region of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain took place at the Stevenage Arts and Leisure Centre over the weekend of March 17th and 18th. Bradwell Band played in the 4th Section on Sunday 18th.
Spirits were high once the result was announced and it became clear we had taken the number one position out of 18 bands. This was 117 years in the making and now sees the band promoted to the 3rd section for next year.

St James Church stands as a significant architectural presence within New Bradwell, a testament to Victorian design and a vibrant centre for community life. As an ecumenical partnership, it serves as a gathering point for diverse traditions, fostering connection and shared experience at the heart of this Milton Keynes district. Its Grade II* listed status underscores its historical importance, designed by the notable G.E. Street to serve the burgeoning railway community of the mid-19th century.
Within its limestone walls, a sense of quiet permanence pervades, with natural light filtering through the windows to illuminate the robust stone and timber details. The cool touch of the ancient Norman arch, relocated from Stantonbury, offers a tangible link to centuries of local heritage, while the carefully maintained wooden pews invite contemplation and fellowship.
The church grounds provide a tranquil space, complementing the welcoming atmosphere found indoors. Practical considerations are met with provisions for refreshments, often accompanying regular open door sessions, ensuring comfort for all who visit. The venue strives to be accessible, reflecting its commitment to serving the wider community.
Beyond its regular worship, St James hosts a varied calendar of events, from musical performances by local groups to community coffee mornings and seasonal celebrations. These gatherings reinforce its role as a dynamic hub, offering opportunities for cultural engagement and social interaction throughout the year.
