Description

Amington Band have been in existence for nearly 100 years, rehearsing every week, entertaining the people of Tamworth and taking part in contests. As a band we take pride in this, and we're committed to keep the legacy going, the entertainment flowing and brass players blowing. Over the years the band has been placed in all sections; from fourth to the championship section. Right now we're a 3rd section band but we aim high and constantly try to improve. You can read more about our illustrious history on our history page!

Our band is made up of around 25 brass players, about 3 percussionists and 1 Musical Director - Alan Gifford. We have a large age range, our youngest player is currently 16 and our oldest is no spring chicken! But nevertheless we're all equal. The band has a written constitution which we follow to keep everyone in check and this is backed by the band committee.

The committee has both playing and non playing members and is chaired by Marie Turner. They meet once a month to discuss band matters, plan upcoming events and to democratically decide the best way for the band to move forward in the future.

The whole band enjoys playing at a wide range of events throughout the year, from concerts in halls to Christmas carols outdoors, garden fetes, festivals and even weddings!

We also now offer our smaller, Amington 10 Piece Brass Ensemble; catering for occasions where a full band might not be necessary or space is limited. In this we provide a chamber music experience not only for the listeners but also as additional musical training for our players, who learn extra skills by playing without a conductor.

We rehearse on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8.00pm until 10.00pm in our purpose built Band Room on Sharpe Street in Amington. We welcome all players to come and play with us, whether you want to join us or just want to come and have a blow!

Trentham Gardens Profile Pic

Description

Whether you’re looking for a garden with peace and quiet, or fun and action you will find a great day out here at Trentham. We’re open every day except Christmas Day.

The new-look gardens have matured into some of the finest in Britain, declared, by James Alexander Sinclair in The Telegraph, as “The garden makeover of the decade”.

We are an award winning garden which in 2013 won the Enjoy Staffordshire Tourism Gold Award, in 2015, 2016 and 2017 we were awarded a Gold Accolade by Visit England and in September 2010, the Gardens won one of the most prestigious European gardening awards, for the “Restoration, Enhancement or Development of a Historic Park or Garden”. What matters most of all is what our visitors think and we’re delighted that they voted us BBC Countryfile’s Garden of the Year 2015.

The contemporary revival of the famous Italian Gardens was led by renowned designer and multi-Chelsea gold-medal winner Tom Stuart-Smith.

To the east of the Italian Gardens are the Rivers of Grass and the adjacent Floral Labyrinth. Both these schemes were designed by eminent Dutch plantsman, and Chelsea gold-medal winner, Piet Oudolf.

At the centre of Trentham Gardens is the mile long, Capability Brown designed, Trentham Lake. Take the circular lakeside walk all the way round as it takes you aside the River Trent, by the bird hide, through the cascading weir and along atmospheric trails, featuring vast NEW meadows schemes by Nigel Dunnett and the team who were responsible for the stunning wildflower plantings at the Olympic Park. These were chosen for seasonal interest and environmental suitability.

The show gardens offer further inspiration to gardeners on a more domestic scale.

We all know that fairies live at the bottom of the garden, and Trentham Gardens is no exception! Take the fairy trail and keep your eyes peeled as you walk around our beautiful mile long lake, and through the woodland, maze and gardens where the fairies live.

Trentham Gardens is a photographer’s dream, just take a look at the snaps visitors have taken during their visits to the gardens and if you’re on Instagram remember the #trenthamgardens to share your pictures with us.

There’s also the exciting adventure playground where children can tackle the assault course, fly down the zip wire, get creative in the sand pits, climb the nets, test their driving skills or get lost in the hide and speak maze. Check out our toddler zone, with a natural and nautical theme, including boats that sail on a sea of sand!

During the spring, summer and autumn months you can go naked from the knees down on our barefoot walk, take a trip across the lake on the Miss Elizabeth or take a miniature train ride as it travels along the lakeside too. With all this going on Trentham Gardens is the perfect place to keep the kids active in the school holidays.

Trentham Gardens is also dog friendly and visitors tell us how much their dogs love their days out here.

Trentham Gardens is a great day out whatever the season.
