Live Performance
Brass Band
Darley Dale Band is a traditional British brass band firmly based in the community of Darley, just north of Matlock in the beautiful Derbyshire Dales.
We are attracting players from Darley and the towns and villages around who enjoy practising and performing together to a high standard without the constraints of contesting. Several of the band members have Championship Section experience however and provide welcome support for others who, for example, learned an instrument at school and have rediscovered the pleasure of banding.
We rehearse from 7.30 to 9.30 on Monday evenings at South Darley Village Hall which is at Cross Green on the road from Darley Bridge to Wensley. The Three Stags’ Heads is where we quench our thirst afterwards.
Our varied programme has included Sunday evenings in Darley Dale, concerts for local community groups, Matlock Beer Festival, the Remembrance parade, Christmas music at St Helen’s and St Mary’s churches and events with the Darley Dale Twinning Association.
Since its formation in 1880 the Band has had its ups and downs – closing down in the 1960s, reforming in 1984 and reviving again in the 2010s. We are now up to full strength and re-establishing our reputation as a friendly band providing high quality entertainment.
A small limestone village of much charm hidden away in the hills south of Wirksworth.
There is an old world feel about this charming little hillside village. Away from main roads it is a peaceful place, there are some beautiful views across picturesque countryside. The very fine Holy Trinity church dates back to Norman times. The oldest and most interesting building is the Barley Mow, a tall gabled inn, one of the few that has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries.
