So, you want to know about the name? Stick around, we may tell you one day. But not yet.
Live music for The River Chickens is not a spectator sport; it is an immersive experience that demands your participation.
Soaring harmony guitars, effortless melodies, dizzying twin guitar solos entwined into modern rock anthems and pounding rock rhythm section – that is The River Chickens experience.
The bands first music video for their song “Perfect Days” was released via their Facebook page on January 1st 2017. 8 days later over 27,000 people had viewed it. “Perfect Days” has also been picked up for regional and National airplay by BBC Introducing.
On January 1st 2018 the band released the #SaveYourself EP - with 6 new songs in a gatefold cover & 12 page booklet of live photography of the band by Jason Bridges. The title track Save Yourself reflects upon the prevalence of depression & wider mental health issues amongst artists of all genres.
With a rock repertoire of instantly memorable yet eclectic original material, and, if they feel like it a huge spectrum of modern and classic rock cover versions to call upon, their live performance is always as vast as the weather & as precise as geometry. And fun.
Fronted by the hugely talented and always shirtless Joel Wildgoose, his vocal style & easy manner with an audience has earned him a loyal following. Joel’s energy on stage, his passion and commitment to deliver a performance that never fails to leave an impression and his wireless guitar solo audience walkabouts have become a thing of legend at a thousand venues around the UK.
As well as fronting and co-writing for The River Chickens, Joel is a consummate acoustic performer too and is currently recording tracks for his second solo album, his first earning him support slots with the legendary Joan Armatrading. Find it on iTunes & YouTube.
Equally talented & dynamic in his guitar style delivery is Ben Milner, technically defying what is thought possible on guitar. Ben along with writing partner Joel have penned modern rock anthems that have earned them a travelling & loyal fan base, & significant industry interest early in 2017.
On drums, which have been likened to sonic artillery, is the effortlessly talented & dreadlocked Dave “Hedgehog” Abbott. His metronomic pounding delivery, coupled with a classic rhythmic flair & style are matched in equal measure by Dave’s reputation for being the second nicest man in rock. Dave is also one half of the vinyl only DJ duo “Drive & Hedgehog”.
The low frequency merchant is Ian Michie, permanently in shades and a bowler hat; Ian is renowned for possessing three of the loudest bass guitar amplifiers on the planet. His greatest wish is to play a gig big enough to use all three at once.
