Description

Sheffield brass band, Stannington Brass, is a Yorkshire Area First Section band.

In January it kicked off the 2018 contesting season in fine style with a highly commendable second place at the Butlins Mineworkers’ Championships, beating 21 First Section bands from all over the country.

A third place out of a field of 12 bands at the Yorkshire Area contest in March strengthened their position in the First Section. With further contests lined up at Dronfield and Bolsover in October, Musical Director, Derek Renshaw, will hopefully be leading the band to further success.

Proud of its long history, Stannington Brass Band has its roots as a village band, based on the outskirts of Sheffield. It performs several concerts in Stannington each year as well as being an established presence at Stannington Carnival, Remembrance Parade and local carol evenings. With ambition and a well-established line-up, many players still live locally and some have made the progression from its flourishing Training Band to join the senior ranks. A sociable and friendly band, it also welcomes students studying at the city’s universities.
