"I have owned a guitar since the mid 70’s. I am one of the many “bedroom” guitarists who, for example, buy a songbook, attempt each song and, encountering the song’s tricky chord, say a B or Bm, would think bugger this, turn the page, and be onto the next song! This process has taken me 35 years to distil the world’s musical oceans down to a small, but perfectly formed, repertoire of three chord songs."
"Following a good few years in Lou Marriott’s guitar class I plucked up courage play and sing in folk clubs. A pastime which continues to fill me with dread."
"These days, along with my great friend and musical mentor, Lou Marriott, I can be found, most Saturday afternoons, on the streets of Sheffield, where we have regularly busked since 2007. Busking is, without doubt my favourite musical activity. The audience is largely transitory, good-natured and sometimes even appreciative. Every week gives a “story to tell”."
"Musical influences include Bob Dylan, Roy Harper, Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and my brother."
The Gardeners Rest is a community run pub in Neepsend, Sheffield. We pride ourselves on the high quality of our beer selection and the regular arts and musical events held in the pub. We’re also proud that we, the customers, own and run the pub as a community project. So not only do we have a great pub to drink in, we also undertake charitable work with vulnerable adults and people with learning difficulties, by providing employment opportunities and meeting space. As we’re fond of saying: we’re more than a pub, we’re a community hub.
