Description

With a varied repertoire encompassing classical to film scores, Mozart to Pharell Williams. Carmarthen Symphonic Wind Band are unique, and need to be heard.

The band, formed in 1996, was the brainchild of local Town Councillor Peter Hughes Griffiths who is now the band's president. His vision was to have a band that would involve musicians young and old, enhance the musical and cultural identity of the town and also support civic and charitable events.

Under the current Musical Director Chris Potter, the band has some 50 members ranging in age from early teens to early eighties many of whom have been with the band for several years. They travel from a wide geographical area including Fishguard, Cardigan and Llanelli and their commitment is demonstrated by the fact that they travel to rehearsals every Sunday evening at the University of Trinity St Davids in Carmarthen. As a community based band they play for their own enjoyment but they also thrive on challenges of performing at more formal concerts and events. As befitting a band comprising of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments their repertoire is wide and varied consisting of classical pieces through to music from the shows, film themes, military marches and popular music.

The band and the Town Council have a strong working relationship and support each other at many civic and less formal events, something that is particularly evident around Christmas.

The band has played at many local concerts and charitable events since it's inception and as also completed numerous tours of Ireland as part of it's fund raising for good causes.

The Band rehearses on Sunday nights in The Archbishop Childs Hall in Trinity College. Rehearsals are from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. We are happy to welcome players of all ages and abilities so please feel free to come along and try us out.

St. Peter's Church Profile Pic

Description

St Peter’s is first recorded in the Chronicles of Battle Abbey when it was donated to Battle Abbey, along with a monastic house known as Llandeulyddog, in about 1110. Llandeulyddog was founded in the 6th century and it is thought that St Peter’s is the sole survivor of a number of churches, associated with the monastery, which once stood within the walls of the old Roman town of Moridunum.

St Peter’s would have been a simple timber church in this period and not the impressive stone building that we see today. But as a church it has served Carmarthen for over 1500 years!

There are many exciting plans for the future of St. Peter's - but for it to have a future, you need to part of it's present. Visit our website for more details of how to get involved.

We welcome back the talented Carmarthen Symphonic Wind Band for 'A Community Christmas Concert'.
Each year the band never fail at putting their audience into a festive mood with all the Christmas favourites.
There'll be warm mulled wine, mince pies and our majestical Christmas tree to add to the festivities.
Come and join us for a community Christmas family evening - A WARM WELCOME TO EVERYONE.
