The Long Eaton Silver Prize Band is a friendly community based brass band organisation, comprising of three groups (our senior and training bands and a beginners' group) totalling 81 players, which promotes and encourages live music within the borough of Erewash and the surrounding areas.
Founded in the 1860s as the Long Eaton Temperance Band, the band left the temperance society in 1906 to reform as the Long Eaton Silver Band, adding Prize to its title after it first contest success in 1908. After over 150 years, our primary objective remains to encourage and provide opportunities for people all ages to play or learn a musical instrument, targeting young and disadvantaged groups (although we no longer insist on alcohol abstention for the adults!).
We raise musical and cultural awareness through a variety of local concerts, charitable events and contests. The senior band currenty contests in the third section where we were Midlands Area and National Champions in 2006.
Performance Arts Theatre
Dedicated to facilitating a wide variety of events and activities, our newly built extended foyer with a bar and lounge area, complements the excellent Duchess Theatre. The 180 seat auditorium with its flexible retractable tiered seating arrangement, makes the space incredibly functional and open to hosting a wider range of events.
The Duchess Theatre now excels by providing more performances from musical, dance and drama groups, film showings, pantomimes, musical recitals, concerts, and celebrations. With such an assorted programme of events provided by our associate and visiting theatre groups, the Centre has never been more motivated in providing something for everyone, with performances showcasing the best talent the local community has to offer.
There is a level threshold to the main entrance of the theatre allowing access to all ground floor areas including disabled toilet in the main foyer. There is plenty of disabled parking in the adjacent car parks which are free after 6.00pm.
No Disabled access to the Balcony
