Description

Gravesend Borough Band is a community concert band based in Gravesend in Kent.

It comprises two ensembles each of around 30 amateur players of all ages.

First established in 1880, Gravesend Borough band is proud of its local roots, its history and its long standing association with Gravesham Borough Council.

The two ensembles that make up Gravesend Borough Band practice every Thursday evening in St Georges Church Hall, St George’s Church, Gravesend:

- Training Band (18.30hrs-19.30hrs during school term time)
- Concert Band (19.30hrs-21.30hrs)

During the course of a year the bands play a wide range of standard concert band repertoire at concerts both locally and on bandstands in and around Kent and Sussex. The musical repertoire includes selections and themes from shows and films, and popular light music. A list of forthcoming concerts can be found here.

New members (as with most local bands) are always welcomed! If you are able to play, used to play while at school and are interested in starting again, or know someone else who may be interested, please come along to a rehearsal or contact us for more information.

Description

Leysdown is a small sea-side town that comes alive in the warmer months.

The beach is mostly sandy with some shells and gravel mixed in. The water here is shallow and perfect for families. Life guards patrol this beach for that extra level of reassurance, with the life guard station situated just behind the sea wall.

At low tide you will find that the sea retreats a long way exposing some small rock pools, perfect for exploring with your nets and buckets. (please return any animals you discover, they do not cope well in warm buckets for long).

Behind the sea wall, in Leysdown town, you will find a large well maintained toilet block, several amusement arcades and cafes. At the end of The Promenade you will find a small grass park, The Spinney, which has a children’s play area and bandstand.

There is a large pay and display car park at the rear of Jimmy G’s Amusement arcade (access via The Promenade). Little Grove’s Leisure Parks offers on the beach parking for £2 a day (you will need 1x £2 coin, price correct May 2018)
