Live Performance
Concert Wind Band
SCWB has its roots in Redbridge Concert Brass, a brass band formed in 1975. In 1994 the band extended its membership to wind players, laying the foundations for what became Southampton Concert Wind Band. Peter Hyland, the band's first Director of Music, played a central role in building this new band, growing the membership and raising its profile locally.
The benefits of Peter's work are evident today. SCWB is a thriving organisation, playing an active part in the amateur musical community, having shared the concert stage with a variety of local ensembles, ranging from wind bands to brass bands and choirs.
As well as regular concert and bandstand appearances, SCWB has, in recent times, participated in wind band festivals, achieving Platinum Awards three years in succession. The band has also accompanied guest soloists of international renown, giving our audiences wonderful performances and our musicians experiences to treasure.
Guided by Director of Music Calum Gray, the band has a broad repertoire and high standards, giving energy, challenge and high attainment.
This is a traditional public park situated on the west side of town. Beautifully maintained, it was created in 1920 from a 5 acre meadow, surrounded on three sides by the River Test.
Perfect for a stroll or to sit and enjoy one of the regular concerts in the Bandstand, the parks facilities include a cafe, lawn bowls club, fishing, formal gardens, inclusive children’s playground, tennis courts, toilets and seating. The tennis is free and the cafe lend out rackets and balls.
Bandstand concerts take place on Sundays throughout the summer.
