Live Performance
Brass Band
Friendly 4th section band, Black Country Brass Band, has existed for over 47 years. It is very active throughout the area, and can be heard giving concerts at a variety of venues including local parks through the summer months.
Black Country Brass is proud to remain a very social band, and under its musical director, Alwyn Manley, who has been an ever present influence for over 20 years, it is still nurturing young talent. Alongside the more experienced players the younger players are able to gain valuable experience.
Remembrance Sunday features high on the bands’ list of annual events, when it marches and supplies the supporting music for the large parade around the Gornal area, and it also plays at the West Bromwich Town Hall and Wolverhampton Civic Hall evening Remembrance Services.
The band is grateful for the support of the Lower Gornal Royal British Legion Club where it practises once a week every Thursday from 8.00 – 9.30pm.
Cripplegate Park is located to the west of the city on New Road opposite the County Cricket ground. The park has a diverse range of features, including a formal arrangement of flower beds, shrub rows, annual bedding, mature trees and open space grassed areas, set out in a traditional style.
Children's play area, tennis courts and bowling greens make this park multi-functional; with events held throughout the year for the benefit of local residents and tourists.
The toilets are coin operated and require a 20p piece.
