An Independent Free House with cold beer and a warm welcome. Cask real ales, traditional ciders, craft & keg beers and wonderful home cooked food.

Our range of cask beers change regularly and will include the best of local and national breweries. Regulars include White Rat from The Rat Brewery, Hudddersfield; Tyneside Blonde from Hadrian & Border Brewery, Newcastle; Red Dust from Consett Brewery. We will usually have a couple of light ales along with a bitter or red beer and a nice dark stout or porter.

To complement our standard range of keg beers, which include Coors Light, Carling, Peroni and Staropramen, we currently have Wylam Hickey the Rake and an additional craft or sour beer.

Aside from Great Beer and Great Food our passion is live music. This is why you’ll find a live band in the bar or on the terrace outside every Sunday afternoon and on the occasional Friday or Saturday evening.
