Wem Jubilee Band is a progressive brass band based in the North Shropshire town of Wem. The Band currently competes in the 4th Section of the Midlands Brass Band Region.
The present Band was formed in the year of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee 1977, although the Band can trace its roots back to the early 1930’s. Since the Band’s reformation a lot of hard work has been put in over the years and it has gradually grown from strength to strength undertaking more and more engagements, entering the contest field as well as a number of visits to Wem’s twin town in France.
The popular Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival will take place on The Green at the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron. Now in its 15th year, the free family event showcases some of the finest brass bands from Shropshire and the surrounding counties.
With some 20 bands performing, it’s the largest, non-competitive brass band festival in the country.
Performances begin at 10am on both days and continue until 5pm on Saturday and 6.30pm on Sunday. Bar drinks and light refreshments will be available to purchase.
