Description

Will Keating can usually be found singing with a Falmouth based male vocal group known as The Oggymen . In 2016, he took the decision to also try his luck at gigging alone with Acoustic Guitar and stomp box. Totally inspired by Cornwall's rich History and Heritage, and the songs penned by his mentor Harry "Safari" Glasson, he hit the road! Will combines Harry's songs with traditional Cornish and Celtic folk songs and has received accolades from far and wide.

Will has performed all over Cornwall and beyond with The Oggymen and as a soloist, duo and trio, including 3 tours to the beautiful Islands of Scilly, Hall for Cornwall, Minack Theatre, Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival, Tunes in the Tunes, Porthleven Food & Music Festival, Falmouth Oyster Festival and Looe Music Festival.

Will released his eagerly anticipated first solo album on November 2nd 2017 to great acclaim. The album celebrates the song writing of Harry Glasson and includes two live tracks recorded at Will's sell out Cornish Folk Concert held in the historic St Senara's Church, Zennor. Special guests are also featured, including a 53 piece Cornish primary school girls choir, award winning banjo player John Dowling, The Oggymen, and the fabulous Helston Town Band.

In 2018, as well as gigging around the county, Will performed in London, Devon and Somerset. Will also produced, and performed in, Cornish Folk Concerts around the County that featured special guests and included venues such as The Watering Hole, Penlee Park Open Air Theatre, The Tolmen Centre, The Acorn and The Poly. As well as performing solo, Will has regularly performed as a Duo with Fiddle players Anna Dowling & Lizzie Pridmore and also Banjo player John Dowling. Will has also played some dual headline gigs with fantastic Cornish Folk Duo Neil Davey & Jen Dyer.

Description

This very old traditional pub is situated in the Portreath valley about 200meters from Portreath beach.

In olden times the pub was a favourite watering hole for seafarers and miners alike, both of whom worked in and around Portreath. The adjacent building which is now the beer cellar has been, in the past commissioned as a cafe, a fish and chip shop and even a mortuary for the unfortunate souls who were shipwrecked of the village, and needless to say we have our fair share of ghostly goings on (all friendly as far as we know!!)

The pub is steeped in character and offers a warm welcome for locals and visitors alike.
The extensive menu of home made dishes uses locally sourced produce wherever possible, and the ever popular Basset's homemade seafood stew made to order, and customer's comments suggest it cannot be bettered.
Meals can be served in the bar area and conservatory or in our separate restaurant.
Service times do vary throughout the year but are generally as shown below.
The Basset also has a great choice of beers, lagers and ciders, including our three award winning real ales. Also the ever popular cornish "Rattler" in bottles, all available 11am - 11pm (usually later on Fridays and Saturdays).

There is a large outside seating and eating area on picnic style benches accompanied by an adventure playground to keep the little ones happy.

There's nothing better in the summer than relaxing outside with a fresh cold pint of local ale of your choice, enjoying this "quaint" historical fishing village.

From lite bites to whole hearty meals we have a menu to suite your taste buds.

Dog friendly as long as on a lead and not in the restaurant.

Reservations are recommended if you want to dine.
