For the very first time, your favourite songs and characters from the BAFTA Award-Winning CBBC TV series HORRIBLE HISTORIES will be appearing live (and dead) on stage in a very special production! When William Shakespeare is asked to create the greatest show on earth, he has no idea how much trouble he's going to get from monstrous monarchs like Henry VIII, Queen Victoria and Mansa Musa. But things hot up when Death appears -- and now Boudica, Napoleon and Cleopatra all want to take over! Can things get any worse? Of course they can - Loo Man's in the building! Featuring a live band, with sensational TV songs including Charles II, Dick Turpin and a bunch of Vikings we couldn't stop barging through the stage door, this is one show you won't want to miss! Bring your singing voices for a truly Horrible show! Horrible Histories® is a registered trademark of Scholastic Inc and is used under authorization. All rights reserved. Written by Terry Deary. Description

York Barbican stands as a prominent cultural asset within the historic city, serving as York's largest entertainment venue. It consistently draws a significant audience, hosting over 200 events and welcoming more than 130,000 visitors each year. Beyond its commercial offerings, the venue plays a vital role in the community, providing a platform for diverse performances, from local ensembles to nationally recognised acts, and notably facilitating events such as the Annual Community Carol Concert, which contributes to local charitable causes.

Within its walls, the atmosphere shifts with each event, from the subtle thrum of anticipation before a major concert to the focused quiet of a conference. The main auditorium, with its adaptable seating and standing configurations, is designed to immerse audiences, while the public areas offer spaces for conversation and reflection. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee from the bars often mingles with the faint, lingering scent of stage smoke, creating a distinct sensory backdrop to the unfolding experiences.

Practical considerations are well-addressed, ensuring broad accessibility. The venue provides step-free access throughout its auditorium, meeting rooms, and bars, with a lift connecting to the upper level. Accessible toilet facilities are available on both floors, and a Sennheiser hearing assistance system is offered for those who require it. On-site bars provide a selection of refreshments, snacks, and alcoholic beverages, catering to patrons before and during events.

The Barbican's calendar is rich and varied, encompassing a broad spectrum of live entertainment. It regularly stages significant musical performances, stand-up comedy tours, and major sporting fixtures, including its long-standing association with the UK Snooker Championship. Additionally, the venue accommodates dance productions, family-oriented shows, and tribute acts, ensuring a dynamic and engaging programme that reflects a wide array of artistic and cultural interests.
