Based out of London, Phoenician Blinds are a jazz-leaning instrumental quartet with blends of straight-ahead jazz, hip-hop and cinematic soundscapes.
'It's the classic jazz quartet in a slightly different light. We work in an unusually organic way both live and in the studio, even in jazz terms. The tunes are mostly written at the piano and then brought to the studio where no one is given any musical guidelines, let alone any written music.
We just roll and see what happens which gives the tunes a fresh feel and a
sense that everyone really is meeting at the centre.'
Influenced by the likes of Esbjörn Svensson Trio, Robert Glasper and Avishai Cohen, this is music sure to make you groove and contemplate the essence of soulful music.
They've been playing around London for three years now making appearances at world renowned venues such as Pizza Express Jazz Club (Soho), Jazz Cafe (Camden), Ronnie Scott's, Kansas Smitty's etc.. They've also had the chance to tour around the UK following the release of their second record making appearances in Manchester, Bristol, Durham, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow, York to name a few.
They've been followed by local London press such as EZH Magazine (2018) which said
Their latest LP A Second of Silence is an antidote to the constant distraction and hectic nature of the world around us. A moment's pause, a breath stretched into eight tracks of luscious downbeat compositions and delicate melody.
Radio Play has included Soweto Kinch's BBC Radio 3 'Jazz Now' programme as well as Seonaid Aitken's 'Jazz Nights' show on BBC Radio Scotland.
