Cardiff based company PYST today announce a new pilot scheme that will see nine Welsh language artists perform in Glasgow, Manchester and London over a three month period.
With support from Welsh Government, the shows will be promoted by three of the best promoters in the relevant cities with the aim of seeing Welsh language artists appear more often and regulary on stages in those cities in the future.
During September, October and November these short tours will visit Glasgow Poetry Club (promoted by DF Concerts), Yes Manchester (promoted by Now Wave) and London Dalston Victoria (promoted by Bird on The Wire).
The line up for the first tour will include Adwaith, Mellt and Papur Wal who will appear in Glasgow (Sept 4), Manchester (5) and London (6). Adwaith enjoyed a succesful 2018 that saw them release their debut album Melyn on Libertino Records to huge critical acclaim. They also toured with Gwenno and Joy Formidable amongst others, recorded a BBC6 Music session for Marc Riley and had one of their singles remixed by James Dean Bradfield of the Manic Street Preachers. Mellt won the Welsh Language Album of The Year as well as receive a nomination for the Welsh Music Prize last year for their debut album Mae'n Hawdd Pan Ti'n Ifanc which was released on Jigcal. Papur Wal meanwhile have just released their debut EP Lle yn y Byd mae Hyn? on Libertino Records.
PYST was established over a year ago as Wales' first digital distribution and label services company and by now distribute and promotes the releases of over 40 labels in Wales. With Welsh Government funding, two new full time posts were created at the end of 2018 which saw the company also move in to the live sector, co-ordinating tours and gigs in partnership with various Welsh promoters.
Ffion Strong, who heads up the Live Department at PYST said Our aim is to work on marketing plans with the three promoters so that the artists not only receive the benefit of playing in new cities but also grow their fanbase through local promotion. At the same time we hope these gigs will present the wealth and variety of new Welsh language music to a new audience and to three of England and Scotland's best promoters
