DISCOVERY DAYS: Cotton, Coal & Countryside: Exploring Cromford's Industrial Heritage - Guided Walk
Location: Meet outside the Mill Shop ready for a 10.30am start (approx 1.30pm finish)
A slightly challenging 4-mile walk, exploring Cromford and its surroundings from on-high. We will look at and learn about the industrial heritage of the area, whilst enjoying breath-taking views of the beautiful heart of Derbyshire countryside.
The walk starts with a meander through Cromford village, before climbing very steeply up the side of the Derwent Valley to the former Cromford & High Peak Railway. After enjoying the local panorama, the walk descends the old railway to High Peak Junction and the Cromford Canal. From here the return leg follows the canal, to finish at Cromford Mill.
The paths can also be muddy and slippery after wet weather. To navigate the steep terrain and stiles please wear suitable clothing / footwear and carry a drink with you.
The Discovery Days Festival (Saturday 26th October Sunday 3rd November) celebrates the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site with activities taking place all along the valley from Derby to Matlock Bath.
