PRESS RELEASE: Cardiff MADE / Electric Soup presents : PLAID 'Polymer'
DATE: Saturday, October 5th 2019
VENUE: Cathays Communuity Centre, Cardiff
Cardiff MADE // Electric Soup, are proud to present the innovative duo Ed Handley and Andy Turner aka PLAID back to Wales again after 15 years, to perform live, their latest Album 'Polymer', released in June this year on Warp records.
Now in its third year, Cardiff MADE's Electric Soup platform of curated evenings which celebrate the breadth of electronic creativity in Wales, has established a consistent draw for artists and audiences alike from as far as Bristol, Devon and now London.
Following from the success of Electric Soup's 10th line-up which was presented at Cathays Community Centre in June, the PLAID gig in October scales it up MADE's agenda to develop audiences for groundbreaking work which cuts across range, age, disciplines and distinctions right within it's community base.
Since the early 90's, Plaid have been expanding the realm of electronic music since they diverged from trio The Black Dog.

Supporting PLAID, are two Cardiff based artists who have performed regularly at Electric SOUP events: Jaxson Payne and Boris a Bono.
Jaxson Payne is a Cardiff based drummer who has been working on a series of live rave releases and performances under the project name 'dtub' (the most recent of which being inspired by early 90's Jungle and Drum & Bass). Everything is performed live in one take on a modified electronic drum kit without any overdubs, loops or backing tracks.

Now in 2019, Plaid stand alongside the likes of Aphex Twin, Autechre and Nightmares on Wax as mainstays of the Warp label as it reaches its 30th anniversary, celebrating achievements in music like few others.
Forging ever bolder and emotive paths through electronic music, Plaid have released their 10th studio album 'Polymer' on Warp Records.
The album's 13 tracks cover energetic bangers, bright melodic visceral rhythms and hypnotic wombic textures to create perhaps their most cohesive, direct album to date.
Plaid's skill for composing melodies is near unmatched in techno - Buzz 4/5
cerebral electronica, characterised by slippery time signatures, off-kilter drum patterns and baroque flourishes - Q 4/5
Covering a wide range of emotions, influences and inspirations; 'Polymer' is an album for modern times. It's creation was informed by a manifesto of Polyphony, Pollution and Politics; clashing themes of environment, synthetics, survival/mortality and humanity's (dis)connection.
Plaid say:
"The problems and benefits of Polymers felt like good themes for this album, their repetitious strength, endurance and troubling persistence, the natural versus the synthetic, silk and silicone, the significant effect they have on our lives.
Having worked with Björk and drawing comparisons to fellow collaborators Mark Bell, Arca, Haxan Cloak and more recent Releases by Skee Mask and Daniel Avery - they've also worked with the London Sinfonietta, the Southbank Gamelan Players, composed for Felix's Machines robotic sculptures, and soundtracked events as diverse as reindeer migration in northern Europe to a level in popular platformer Little Big Planet 3.
