In the bicentenary of the birth of Herne Hill's most famous resident, John Ruskin, art critic, author, poet and social reformer, we celebrate his life-long love of music. There will be music Ruskin loved and wrote about, as well as music he despised such as Beethoven's - interspersed with readings on music from Ruskin's own writings: sometimes serious, but comic too! Ruskin composed music himself and there will be a rare opportunity to hear his own charming songs. We will also premiere a new song cycle Pearls on Scales by the award winning composer Andrew Wilson, showing how Ruskin's influence on artists continues to live into our own time.
Performers - wonderful tenor Charles MacDougall, with Robert Mingay-Smith on piano.
Performance 7.30pm - 9.30pm
