Set in 21st century China, this superb gangster drama from
Zhangke (Still Life 2006, A Touch of Sin 2013) picks up his
favourite themes of globalisation, consumerism and their
alienating effect on Chinese society. In a bleak industrial city
dancer Qiao (Tao) falls in love with mobster Bin (Fan). When
he takes on the leadership of the 'Jianghu' brotherhood Qiao is
forced to make a seismic choice. A fascinating glimpse of life
in rapidly modernising China and the director's best film so far!
