The Just Joans return for their first live performance of 2019 with a rare hometown appearance.
Following the success of 2017's You Might Be Smiling Now, the band have added witticisms and a trumpet to their armoury as they continue to draw on the influence of The Magnetic Fields, Half Man Half Biscuit and The Kinks.
With their next album now in production, this is your opportunity to hear several new songs for the very first time as well as a couple of old classics.
The Just Joans are delighted to be joined on the bill by two other exciting Glasgow groups in The Martial Arts and U.S. Highball.
The Martial Arts is the project of Paul Kelly (of BMX Bandits/Carla J Easton/The Primary 5 and many more). After a lengthy hiatus since the album 'Your Sinclair', they have returned with 'I Used To Be The Martial Arts', which has been journalistically described as a must have EP for all lovers of the crazy magical thing called pop."
The Martial Arts assemble as a five-piece live ensemble containing members of TeenCanteen, Trembling Bells and Nevada Base.
U.S. Highball are a duo formed of lifelong friends and neighbours Calvin Halliday and James Hindle. While taking a break from playing together in indiepop quarter, The Pooches, the twosome hunkered down and began working in earnest on a batch of new songs exploring their shared passion for melody and brevity.
Inspired equally by the organ-led jangle of Felt, the whip-smart new wave of Nick Lowe, and the primitive drum machine sounds of early They Might Be Giants, U.S. Highball revel unashamedly in the pleasures of pure pop. The guitars chime, the keys crunch, the choruses soar and the band's plentiful hooks will be lodged firmly in your cranium from first listen.
It is a night not to be missed.
