Description

Beats To The Bar are delighted to present The Birthmarks with support from Dog Chocolate, Clémentine March and Life Drawings. Bands start from 7:15pm.

Marc Riley (BBC6 Music) favourites The Birthmarks are a five piece from Manchester. Their new EP "No Slash", released via Permanent Slump in July, is a brilliant piece of lo-fi jangle wonk with the skuzz of Let's Wrestle, the monotony of The Rebel, a garagey 13th Floor Elevators psychedelic edge and the sense of fun of Terry. It's a worthy follow up to their also great 2017 album Yawn/Sigh.

Dog Chocolate are a bunch of noisy, messy, punky clatterers from London. With songs ranging between 8 seconds and two minutes and a penchant for a good chat in between songs, the live show is spontaneous, frenetic and fun. Their most recent album Moody Balloon Baby, released via Upset The Rhythm, accurately captures this mania.

Clémentine March, born in France, based in London, writes songs and instrumentals that cross language and genre borders. Playing in numerous bands, including Snapped Ankles, Bamboo and Mega Bog, Clémentine takes influence from the alt-rock sounds of Pavement, the Raincoats, Galaxie 500, the Beatles' White Album and avant-garde jazz. Her excellent debut EP, 'Les Etoiles à Ma Porte', was released in June.

Life Drawings are glorious. Sardonic, monotonous but utterly joyous, with catchy guitar hooks, bouncy bass lines and dry wit. Currently putting together their second release as a follow up to their superb self-titled debut album released, again, via Permanent Slump.

The Victoria Profile Pic

Description

The stunning 50’s bar island takes centre stage in the venue, illuminated, and boasting the kind of drinks offer you’d expect to find; JaguarShoes classic cocktails, locally brewed craft beers and a selection of new and old world wines.

The VICTORIA has a long standing heritage as a music venue, we plan to maintain that under JaguarShoes, but it’s also a great pub and it feels like for a long time that’s been overlooked.

The focus at the Victoria is premium Rum which seemed the obvious choice given the Caribbean influence on the area in recent decades and the fact that rum is not quite so serious a companion as it’s peers… Rum, can just be fun!

The music room at The Victoria has been on the radar of gig goers for more than 3 decades and is one of the best live rooms in East London. Ben Heath, who owned and ran infamous Shoreditch club CATCH (2001-2009), joins the founders of DreamBagsJaguarShoes in recreating this club.

In the Spring of 2015 we re-launched the space independently to the pub, working with the industry’s best promoters and building an exciting a new programme of live music and club nights.
