Sorry, This Event is in the past!
Freak Scene are joining forces with Snuggle Dice (Snuggle Freaks?) to bring the brilliant Nervus to the Wheatsheaf for their first ever headline gig in Oxford! The emo-inflected punk rockers will be touring their third album Tough Crowd, which is due out on 27th September on Big Scary Monsters. It's probably their most accessible record to date, and features singles like the opening track Flies and They Don't.
Support comes from Nervous Rex, who bill themselves as the UK's first trans/non-binary dinopunk band, and who we definitely didn't just pick because of the name. Their lovely demos put them on the more adorable side of indie punk, with dinosaur-themed songs about Jurassic Park and 19th century palaeontologists, and we can't wait to bring them to town: https://nervousrexpunks.bandcamp.com/releases
The wonderful Spank Hair also join the bill, whose twiddly midwest emo stylings are beautifully expressed on the terrific What's the Rush? EP, which the band released earlier this year, offering up the music on a pay what you want basis with all proceeds going to Shelter. it's on their Bandcamp here: https://spankhair.bandcamp.com/album/whats-the-rush
And kicking the night off is the brilliantly-named riot grrl-esque punk rock two piece Dream Phone - unquestionably the glitteriest band in Oxford right now. Make sure you're down early for them.
This event is 18+, and there is a narrow flight of stairs up to the venue room in the Wheatsheaf.
Finally, both Freak Scene and Snuggle Dice shows are inclusive ones, and we want people to feel safe. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, bigotry and general dickery of any kind will not be tolerated. If you feel like you can't handle that, feel free not to come. And if you experience any of these, speak to one of us (we'll probably be hanging about the door) or to venue staff.
