Punk rock band from Manchester UK. Originally formed in 1976, Reformed several times.....now relaunched as a 3 piece in January 2017.
The Drones started out in the Manchester area in 1974 as a Glam Rock outfit called Rockslide, releasing a lone single 'Jump Bump Boogaloo' / 'Roller Coaster' in October 1975, before reinvented themselves as a punk rock band the following year. The Drones then relocated to London and became one of the pioneering punk bands that performed in the first few months of the now-legendary Roxy Club. They supported The Vibrators in January 1977, headlined in February, and supported X-Ray Spex and Chelsea in March. Later that year they supported The Stranglers on a full UK tour, and appeared on two influential early punk compilation albums 'Streets' and 'Short Circuit: Live at the Electric Circus'. Their debut EP, 'Temptations Of A White Collar Worker' (1977), was described by one reviewer as "classic dole-queue punk." In October 1977, their second single, 'Just Wanna Be Myself' / 'Bone Idol', was released, and on 6th December they recorded a session at Maida Vale 4 studio for John Peel. Later that month, they released their debut album on Valer Records, 'Further Temptations', produced by Simon Humphrey, and now regarded by many as a punk classic.
We're here.....we're here....the change....
Wispa, of course, continues to lead the band, play bass & sing. The Drones now are Wispa.....Wispa is the Drones!
The new drummer is Brain Grantham. "Mad Muffet" from Slaughter & the Dogs, The new lead guitarist is Al Crosby, who also plays in Ed Banger & the Nosebleeds with.....Brian Grantham!
Al & Brian are old collaborators, having played together in the early 90s Manchester street punk band Born Idle who played with Sham 69, the Damned, UK Subs, Jayne County and many others including a certain date at the Manchester Star & Garter supporting.....The Drones!
The band are now in rehearsals, and are writing new material with a view to releasing a showcase EP early next year.
The new stuff is being honed to sound like the Drones should sound. Loud, dynamic, and brutally honest. This band has a sound, a legacy, and a reputation, and the Drones will continue to build on that platform. Expect crushing punk rock, tireless rock 'n' roll rhythms kicked apart by snarling, subversive, yet clever vocals. Expect naggingly compulsive, in your face face songs that speak about truth, modern Britain and flagrant urgent issues.
4 PAST MIDNIGHT are a long Running Punk Band.. We are passionate about what we do. We are the Reinvention Brilliance..!! We Like To DELETE!!
We are one of the hardest working bands in my opinion which have came out of Scotland , Playing what i've always considered to be a mix between punk rock and punk rock , cant say fairer than that.
Drawing our many influences from far and wide ..from Cockney Rejects to Conflict to the ramones and the clash to killing joke to no use for a name to bad religion , johnny cash , neil diamond , the damned , exploited , discharge country music , .We are influenced by so many bands and musical genres ..We like to do our own thing when it comes to making music so when you hear a 4pm record you dont know what to expect next .
CP LEE.....
CP started out in the 1960s with the legendary Manchester band Greasy Bear. Their eponymous debut album finally saw the light of day in 2016 released by Vinyl Revival.
Other musical projects include Gerry and the Holograms who in 1979 was regarded by Frank Zappa as one of his favourite bands. GATH left the earth soon after their arrival but the legacy lives on with the release of their debut album by Finders Keepers in 2017.
Aside from his current solo work as JOA, CP is part of Vocal Harum, a five-piece singing group dedicated to putting the Doo back into the Wop.
Rock iconoclasts Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias was one of Joe Strummer's favourite bands and CP Lee was a founder member. To see some of the Bert's stuff, look on youTube here's a fast acting one to swallow as a taster:- ANADIN
The Albertos did lots of stuff through the 70s and 80s in the UK, Europe and America. If you fancy a gander because you think you saw them but can't remember, check this out:- SIMON WHITE'S GIG LIST
In 1981 CP wrote 'Teach Yourself Gibberish' featuring a new number each week and Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias was beamed out to the nation for six episodes on ITV. Here's one:- K IS FOR LYING
