Joe Boyle's Union Event Title Pic

Joe Boyle's Union

Event Type

Genre : Music - Jazz/latin

Description

The music played by Union is a hard hitting social commentary that holds up a mirror to life in the 21st century. Fusing bebop, classical music and almost totally free improvisation, Joe Boyle and his comrades create and unsettling and unique soundscape that creates an atmosphere to describe modern society and all of its excesses.

Having grown up in a musical family, Joe was given music lessons from a very young age. He started out playing the piano but later progressed to classical violin, which he formally studied until he was 18. While he was a teenager, Joe discovered jazz through learning the drums and the guitar and was given the opportunity to play in the Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra, where he performed alongside such musicians as Courtney Pine and Ian Shaw as well as working with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He then continued to study jazz at Middlesex University, where he began to play the double bass.

Since completing his education, Joe has gone on to play on the London jazz scene as well as playing other genres of music, ranging from traditional Greek music to Experimental Rock. He has also put together a project with the singer Germana La Sorsa called JiC - Jazz in Cinema - Project.

Performing with Joe are Rich Muscat - saxophones, Dougal Taylor - drums, and a special guest on piano.
