The 17th London African Music Festival Presents Kel Assouf (niger) Event Title Pic

Description

KEL ASSOUF (Niger)
ANANA HAROUNA, guitar/vocals
SOFYANN BEN YOUSSEF, organ and the Moog SUB 37
OLIVIER PENU, drums

Born in Niger, he trained in Libya during the Tuareg uprising in the early 90s and a former Tinariwen's guitarist Anana Harouna's trio KEL ASSOUF means both nostalgia and son of eternity in Tamashek, the language of the Sahara nomads. KEL ASSOUF is a minimalist power trio with guitarist and singer ANANA HAROUNA, SOFYANN BEN YOUSSEF on the organ and the Moog SUB 37, and OLIVIER PENU on drums to the African trance rhythms which melt into the energy of vintage rock which move to a dancefloor somewhere between London and Niamey - a powerful groove machine. If Tinariwen and Tamikrest are the masters of Tuareg desert blues-rock, then Kel Assouf show how the music of the Sahara sounds once it has migrated to Europe and fused with other influences.
