Description

This Derelict London walking tour takes you out to the borders of Greater London and Kent. Paul has been exploring this area for many years and now gives some guided tours before redevelopment really takes off in this fascinating town.

On this tour we see much dereliction including: wartime ammunition shelters, site and clues of a WW1 airfield, an overgrown smallpox hospital site, the exteriors of the abandoned Wells Firework Factory, the 'Lock-up' Dartford's first police station built in 1843, the Art Deco former Co-op,the recently renovated workhouse chapel , a whole street pretty much all boarded up after an ill-fated property deal with a major supermarket chain plus more run down industrial sites and a walk along the River Darent looking at remains of old locks and gunpowder mills. All this plus some background history of the town along with some famous connections with King Henry V, Jane Austen, Maggie Thatcher, Peasant's Revolt & of course the Rolling Stones.

Meeting at Dartford Station at 10:30am and finishing around 5:30-6:00 ish. There will be a pub stop for refreshments along the way though make sure you have a hearty breakfast before we meet. If you want to eat in Dartford before the walk I recommend Ossie's Cafe (5 mins from station)for a full English. As usual there will be the opportunity for drinks with Paul at the end of the tour.

**Please wear sturdy footwear & waterproof clothing and bring some snacks and water **

Please note that this walk is wholly above ground and there will be no subterranean trips down to the sewers and the tour does not involve trespassing on private property. We only view the exteriors of derelict sites. Dogs are welcome although there is no guarantee that they will be allowed into the pub.
