Facing up to Facial Recognition: What role should facial recognition technology have, if any, in the UK?
Dr Stephanie Hare will lead a discussion on the use of facial recognition technology in the UK, an issue affecting us today - perhaps without our knowledge - and which could have a significant impact in the future.
Dr Hare will explore why the Science and Technology Committee in the House of Commons called for a temporary stop on the use of facial recognition technology; what our rights are under GDPR; the differences in police vs. private sector use; and how the technology is being used in other countries.
The discussion will then be opened out to the audience, for questions and comments.
Dr Stephanie Hare is a researcher and broadcaster working across technology, politics and history. Selected for the Foreign Policy Interrupted Fellowship and the BBC Expert Women programme, Stephanie frequently shares insights on television, radio and online. Her research publications and media commentary can be found at harebrain.co. Her first book, 'Technology Ethics', will be published in late 2019 by London Publishing Partnership
