For this EFG London Jazz Festival 2019 concert, Maria Chiara Argirò will present the brand new compositions from her second album 'Hidden Seas' released in September 2019 featuring - especially for this occasion - Dugong, the up-and-coming band by some of the best musicians of the Italian jazz scene.

Maria Chiara Argirò is an Italian pianist, keyboard player and composer currently living in London. Argirò's unique sound and departure from the traditional jazz idiom is beautifully reflected in her 2016 debut album The Fall Dance - a project featuring a fantastic line up of musicians creating vibrant collaborative music.

She has further developed her style of jazz with a twist of contemporary genres, influenced from her numerous tours with bands such as These New Puritans. She is currently involved with a variety of musical projects which include Liran Donin's 1000 Boats, Kinkajous, Teotima, Rosie Turton and Jamie Leeming.

Her most recent venture into electronic genres has helped create more expansive soundscapes which can be heard in Argirò's second album as artistic director and composer 'Hidden Seas' released in September 2019 on Cavalo Records.

Dugong is an up-and-coming band by some of the best musicians of the Italian jazz scene. It was originally created in Milan by guitarist Michele Caiati and saxophonist Nicolò Ricci, but it was later expanded abroad to London based bassist Andrea Di Biase and drummer Riccardo Chiaberta.
 
They released their debut album Miscommunication in 2014 with critical acclaim and toured it extensively in Italy, Switzerland and UK.
 
They released their second album The Big Other in May 2018 with the prestigious Italian label Honolulu Records. The band has a very individual sound which draws inspiration from many genres of music, from alternative rock to modern jazz to contemporary classical music. In their last album Dugong experimented with different kinds of musical structures other than the usual jazz approach of theme, improvisation and final melody. They also worked on the potential of linear counterpoint, drawing inspiration from classical composers such as J. S. Bach and Frederic Chopin.
