Student Ticket: All The Wild Folk With Worldwide Welshman + Paul Handyside At Jamboree Event Title Pic

Description

A night of Welsh mystery folk and merriment at Jamboree, introducing Worldwide Welshman and his band of troubadours, with support coming from Newcastle way with ace lyrical folk and roots act Paul Handyside, ex of janglepop heroes Hurrah!

Worldwide Welshman comes from darkest Snowdonia with his beard, his guitar, and his upbeat, tragi-comic reflections on the absurdities of modern life. In 2015 singer-songwriter Liam Rickard moved to London with the specific aim of forming a "multilingual, genre & border-defying, all-styles/world-folk-rock band." In 2016 "Worldwide Welshman & Beyond" were formed out of the jamming scene of East London; a fexi-band of jazz, folk & rock musicians coming from different countries and musical backgrounds. The project has since expanded internationally, with alternative lineups in Belgium, Germany & Wales, and collaborators in even more places.

Liam & his friends have entertained audiences in many beautiful settings such as community gardens, street parties, squats, living rooms, a floating book shop, a galleon and a river in Belgium, as well as the more typical venues of cafes, clubs & festivals.

In keeping with the global ethos of the project, Worldwide Welshman's first album, "The World Is Like A Crazy Goat," has been recorded variously in Wales, Italy, Ghent, Algiers, London and Oxford. It features past and present members of the band, and collaborations with musicians he met along the way. The album contains original songs in English, Spanish & Chinese and alternative versions of two popular Welsh folk songs.

Paul Handyside is a folk and roots singer songwriter. His song writing style has been compared to artists as varied as Chris Difford, Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock, Green Gartside, Elvis Costello, Jeff Buckley and Martin Carthy.

Paul Handyside began his musical career with eighties indie darlings Hurrah! The jangle pop band had album releases on Kitchenware and Arista Records from 1982 to 1991 and toured extensively worldwide. During the nineties he toured and recorded with friend and Kitchenware labelmate Martin Stephenson.

Handyside formed Bronze in 2001. Still embracing chiming, Rickenbacker driven pop, and increasingly alt country, they released two albums, The Statue in the Stone and A Common Prayer. His debut solo album Future's Dream, a combination of pop, country and modern day hymns was released in 2007 to great reviews. The second album Wayward Son followed in 2013 and further developed his own brand of folk-tinged americana.

The latest album Tide, Timber & Grain was released in April 2016 with elements of traditional British folk and sixties protest songs emerging in Handyside's now well established and diverse musical palette. This time the recordings were based around the trio of Paul on vocals, guitar and harmonium; producer Rob Tickell on weissenborn slide guitar, bass and guitar; Dave Porthouse (the original bass player from Hurrah!) on melodeon and double bass.
